The 90s saw a lot of artists issuing unplugged versions of their works-I guess they wanted to show their fans that if you stripped away all the orchestrations and overdubs that they really could play an instrument and carry a tune. Sometimes unplugged worked and sometimes it didn't. Boz Scaggs has developed over the course of his career into one of the most sophisticated R&B stylists on the scene today. His brief flirtation with disco and lachrymose pop aside, he continues to show that he has the right stuff. I was scrolling the album list for "Moments" when I encountered this. Never having seen it, I clicked in and looked at the song list. Most were familiar titles but I was intrigued by the idea of the Boz unplugged. I blanched when I saw the price but swallowed hard and bought it anyhow. After all, it is no more than a concert ticket. If the concert sucks, you are out your money. If the CD sucks, you can always pawn it off on someone else. Don't you be put off by the price. This is a great CD! I like the whole album, but am particularly impressed by the unplugged selections. The intimacy and romance is incredible. This is the perfect album to play while wining and dining a loved one. My favorite cuts are Harbor Lights, We're All Alone, and an outstanding rendition of Simone. If you haven't heard this album, and are a Boz Scaggs fanatic, then it behooves you to pick this one up. You will be glad you did. It is truly urbanity unplugged.
