Because my hair is dark brown and this dye is reddish brown, it shows obvious roots. First time I have had obvious roots!! Because this dye is NOT semi-permamant (AS THEY CLAIM).....it does not wash out with regular shampooing! You may ask, "What's wrong with that?" For me, plenty! I have always used semi-permanent dyes, so that I will never have "roots" when my hair grows out. This way, I can choose to not color it for a while if I don't wish to. With this dye, I am forced to color again when I am not ready ESPECIALLY BECAUSE SINCE IS NOT DARK BROWN!! However, because it it soooooo much trouble and takes so much time, AND it is the wrong color, I do NOT even feel like bothering to do another round!! Unfortunately, I bought 4 packages of it, so I still have three that I am not happy with!!!Pros:1. Leaves hair shiny and vibrant looking.2. It really does cover the grey.Cons:1. It is so much trouble to use that I just don't feel like using it again.2. A big con: Leaves my dark brown hair orange-reddish looking, which I DESPISE!!!!3. Shows very obvious roots when hair grows out because of the difference in the color of my hair and the dye.If it had not come out reddish brown, I might may keep using the product. I may try the black and see how that works. If you have plenty of time and don't mind the fuss and muss, you may really like it. My biggest complaint is the color! If not, I may have given it 4 stars.Update - 9/18/2012I have tried one more application after talking with the manufacturer. They instructed me to try a different method. This time, my hair came out even redder!! The worst thing that I hate about this product is that the instructions say to not shampoo after rinsing out the indigo. That has an awful after-effect!!! Every time you run your fingers through your hair or scratch your scalp, your fingers and nails are left with a blue residue!!! AND, the hair just feels icky from the indigo residue on the hair!! I did not shampoo for 3 days, hoping that that would keep my hair from turning red. No such luck!! Red all the way after the first shampoo!!!I tried the black sureya henna after this, to try to cover the red. It barely toned down the red. I still have dark brown/grey roots! Therefore, I am VERY unhappy with the color results of LM. I will have to wait for my hair to grow out completely in order to get rid of the red!! : (This product did cover the gray far better than ANY grocery store brand (and I have tried many of them) has done. But the amount of time and effort and clean up needed to use this product (in addition to the unpleasant smell) left me wondering if I would bother with again. Since some time has passed and the smell, mess, and the amount of effort are behind me now (and because I am actually impressed with its ability to actually do what so many other products claim but fail to do....cover the gray) I am now thinking I will buy this product again. Other reviewers claim that it is "a little more effort" than other products...but I say it is "a LOT more effort" than the other products but at least it does what it claims to do... which is very refreshing.I like it because there are no harsh chemicals and no smell. It is easy on my scalp. It is harder to use than regular hair dyes because it's a green mud. But after a few times you get the hang of it. Also it takes time because you mix up the dye and let it sit for an hour. In the meantime, you put a different mud on the roots so it will accept the dye better. Then you put on the main dye for an additional hour. It looks nice and natural. Is it messy? Yes. Does it stink? Hella yes. Will it make your hair look fabulous? Yes it will. It not only leaves your hair really healthy and shiny, it does completely get rid of the grey.I rinse with a ginger paste that I make myself afterwards out of conditioner and ground ginger and it gets rid of the smell. This product is much more of a hassle than most hair care products but it does a better job. And I feel taking care of my hair is a project worth a little time. Most dyes made my hair break and fall out. And I got skunk stripe after a few weeks. This one doesn't do either of those things.I have been using this product for five years. I love it! Great color. Great staying power. Prior to this, I was having my hair dyed at the salon. I was reacting to the chemical dye (itching, burning), but continued because I'm not ready to be gray. My hair was starting to look really thin. Henna leaves your hair in a more healthy state. My hair is much more thick now. Using this product is all about technique and practice. Have the patience to figure out the best timing for your hair. And follow the directions for how to mix it up. By the way, this product has never contained pebbles or sticks. That person was obviously advertising their henna product, which was listed in their review. Tsk tskI bought this since I’m allergic to some hair dyes but this stuff is way to complicated to make it a regular use fix. You have to boil water to mix and there are two separate powders to mix and use which takes a good 3 hours. I’ll go back to the simple one step, pre-mixed hair dyes that are over the counter.I got this product because I have serious allergic reactions to hair dye. The good news is that this product made my hair very soft with no allergic reaction. The bad news is that it made my hair orange in the areas where it was white before. It did give the dark part of my hair a slight reddish tinge which does look good. I tried mixing a new batch with only slightly hot water instead of boiling water. The customer service was quick to respond to my e-mail and tried hard to help with good advice, but none of the attempts to dye my hair worked. Although it didn't work on the white hair I still gave it 3 stars because of the great customer service and the hair nourishing properties of it.This is the only Henna that covered my gray hair. Really happy with the product. I have been using it for years.Hair feels lovely...it is messy and takes more thought but worth it in the end.......colour was darker than expected but greys covered for another couple weeks.Great product thank youI have always loved Light Mountain henna, and Color the Gray does all that it promises to do. This color is a bit different from medium brown in that it shows coppery highlights in my hair, and it, like the other colors, lasts a long, LONG time!! Additionally, having short hair I find I can easily get three colorings from one box of product, with some left over. This is not good at all
